About

The Kung Fu School (also Shaolinweb.com) was founded by Sifu Mak Miah.

In 1995 he founded and formed The Orpington School Of Martial Arts (O.S..M.A.) OSMA was originally formed as an introduction class for new students for Mike Olrod’s classes. Due to the demand being high to gain membership into Sifu Mike’s classes. A separate class was needed to give students an insight into the style and also to weed out the dedicated martial artists, to conform to the very high standards that Sifu Mike held to enter membership into his class.

Unfortunately in 1996 due to personal commitments Sifu Mike had to close down his class. This left Mak with a handful of students who were still eager to learn with nowhere else to go. He decided to carry on teaching them on his own to build on what they already knew and to push them further. Through the coming years he built up two successful classes in the Orpington area.

In January 2000 OSMA was chosen to represent the Shaolin Temple in the UK . OSMA continued to represent the Temple for the next 2 years.

The object of OSMA is to provide authentic and practical training and teachings in Kung Fu. This training will encompass traditional Chinese training and philosophies. While the core syllabus is traditional the training within the lessons have an emphasis on practicality. We feel that while we all have to and should train the traditional aspects of Chinese martial arts, we should also try to first understand the techniques that we train and then adapt them to suit us. We should take what is good and improve upon them.

The school focuses on the individual, every student is different and each student’s needs and requirements are not the same. Each student is encouraged to learn at his or her own pace. Students receive one to one tuition for their induction period and then as and when it is required.

Martial Arts is not only for self defence but also for that balancing of ones body and mind and understanding and discovery of oneself.

The school continues on and in 2005 celebrated its 10 year anniversary renaming the school The Kung Fu School to reflect the wide range of philosophies and teachings that it has encompassed over the years. Through the decade of history the school has had over 1000 members.
