A Few Words from our Founder
I established The Kung Fu School, formerly Orpington School of Martial Arts, in 1995 after years studying various styles.
Developed over nearly three decades the system taught is effective, practical and accessible to all, derived primarily from the explosive Praying Mantis Kung Fu system.
The classes are informal and friendly with an emphasis on students helping one another progress. I take a personal overview of each and every students individual training progression. I encourage personal development in all aspects of the art, emotionally, mentally and physically and am dedicated to bringing out the best in people.
The school offers everything that you’d expect from a martial arts school and much more. You are welcome to come and try out our lessons and I look forward to meeting you soon.

Yes of course you can! just as long as you are over 14 years of age.
How much do classes cost?
Adult classes are £10 a session or you can choose to pay monthly, quarterly or even yearly.
What do I need to wear?
Wear some loose light clothing such as plain jogging bottoms and a plain T-shirt. After you have been for a few lessons, you can order black kungfu bottoms and white kungfu T-shirt from the school.
What is the format of a typical class?
The lessons are conducted in a friendly atmosphere and will begin with a few simple warm up exercises that are suitable for beginners and seniors. Then we practice our basic techniques then we gradually move onto more advanced techniques. If necessary we split up the class into sections to accommodate different levels. The class then progresses to the teaching of specific self defence situations.
I have never practised a martial art before, can I come along?
Yes! Beginners are always welcome to our foundation classes, and will be taught at a pace suitable to the individual with one to one tuition. Contact us first though to make an appointment.
How long does it take to get my Black Belt
Although we do have a grading system in place to help track students progress. Our emphasis will not be on you attaining your black belt, but for you develop as a martial artist. The attainment of the grades is to assist you in a direction. When you come to class, no one wears belts.
